Cognitive behaviour therapy

Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is a relatively short -term, scientifically based therapeutic approach.

CBT focuses on the links between what you think about yourself or a situation (the cognitive part) and how this affects the way you behave ( the behavioural part).

CBT comprises both cognitive and behaviour therapy. Cognitive therapy identifies and evaluates unhelpful thoughts that lead to negative feelings (e.g. depression, anxiety). The treatment focuses on questioning thoughts and helping you learn more realistic and appropriate ways of thinking about difficult situations

It can be used in conjunction with medication or on its own
