Below are some questions that will help you find a practitioner who meets your specific needs.

  • Are you registered: tells you which organization the individual is registered with.
  • What are your qualifications: tells you what qualifications the practitioner has achieved and level of experience.
  • What are your special areas of practice.
  • What is your theoretical approach: tells you the way the psychologist approaches psychotherapy/counselling
  • Which types of clients do you typically see
  • How do you typically work: e.g. you may feel you need set number of sessions, or you may feel you need long term work.
  • Ask for any additional information which may help you build a more compete picture of a practitioners experience and background
  • What are you fees

Only you can decide whether a practitioner is right for you. Ask yourself if you could feel safe with this person and feel comfortable telling them intimate details of your life and be completely open with them.
