Terry Fox- 30 years on and still an inspiration

April 12, 2010

Thirty years ago today, a young man from Port Coquitlam dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean before beginning a cross-country marathon.

When I first arrived in Canada some 22 years ago from the UK, I had little or no idea who Terry Fox was. But I have come to appreciate that Terry Fox’s legacy is truly phenomenal. On a personal note my sons attended Terry Fox secondary school in Port Coquitlam . I am so  humbled by the inspiration that this brave young man has instilled in our community, across Canada and around the World.

Although I did not attend Terry Fox Secondary, my elder brother did. And although, my children are not, I do still live in Port Coquitlam. Small world eh?

Hi Kristie, I’m sure living in Port Coquitlam you are as proud as I am of our hometown boy Terry Fox.
