School leaving grades can be an indicator of an increased risk of suicide at a young age. A new study from the medical university Karolinska Institutet and the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare, shows that young people leaving the Swedish elementary school (year nine at age 16) with the lowest average grades, run approximately three times the risk of committing suicide compared with those who graduate with top or very high grades. Experts at the University of Surrey discovered that many older people felt that they may be branded lazy for taking afternoon naps so they tried hard to avoid nodding off.

Having a sister makes you happier

Oh dear…. maybe I was meant to suffer. You see I have 4 brothers ( who actually don’t talk to me). And the plot thickens, I have 4 sons….so where does that leave me?  Where am I going with all this you may ask, a recent study found that adolescents who have a sister are less likely to report such feelings as “I am unhappy, sad or depressed” and “I feel like no one loves me.” 🙁
Indeed other studies have come to similar conclusions. So exactly why would having a sister make you happier? Curious? Continue reading
