There’s more to intelligence than just IQ.

Is George W Bush stupid? It’s a question that occupied a good many minds of all political persuasions during his turbulent eight-year presidency. The strict answer is no. Bush’s IQ score is estimated to be above 120, which suggests an intelligence in the top 10 per cent of the population. But this, surely, does not tell the whole story. Even those sympathetic to the former president have acknowledged that as a thinker and decision-maker he is not all there.

IQ SCORES have long been regarded with suspicion, and now there turns out to be another reason to be sceptical about them. Among the attributes that IQ tests fail to capture is our capacity for rational decision-making. Link to the full article in today’s New Scientist

Breastfeeding boosts babies IQs

King’s College London researchers have discovered that breastfeeding can increase the IQ of children when combined with the right genes. Based on two studies of 3,000 breastfed babies in Britain and New Zealand, breastfeeding was found to raise intelligence by an average of nearly seven IQ points if the children had a particular version of a gene called FADS2.
