Botox to treat depression? A new joint University research project has found that cosmetic Botox injections not only help reduce frown lines but could also make you feel happy.

The project, led by Dr Michael Lewis, School of Psychology in conjunction with Court House Clinics and published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, compared the mood of patients who received Botox treatment for frown lines with patients who received other forms of cosmetic treatments. The brain’s neuronal network restricts the number of items we can normally store in our working memories at any one time to seven. These are findings of researchers at the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet (KI) who have constructed a mathematical activity model of the brain’s anterior and superior parts, to increase the understanding of the capacity of the working memory and of how the billions of neurons in the brain interact. Older people can dance their way towards improved health and happiness, according to a report from the Changing Ageing Partnership (CAP).

The research, by Dr Jonathan Skinner from Queen’s University Belfast, reveals the social, mental and physical benefits of social dancing for older people. It suggests that dancing staves of illness, and even counteracts decline in ageing. [continue reading…]
