Behaviour link to lifelong health

Researchers at the University of Alberta are suggesting that people who behaved badly at school are more likely to suffer mental health and social difficulties as adults. Research published in the British Medical Journal examined data from 3,500 people from the age of 13 until they reached their 40s or 50s. Link to read more

Headroom

The BBC has launched a Beta version of Headroom, a campaign to encourage you to look after your mental wellbeing.  Its no surprise that this great site is very informative, with  novel interactive features such as Moodscape, which creates an animation that expresses how you’re feeling today.  Relaxation tracks and lots of videos, however  its dissappointing that currently, many of the features are unavailable  to people living outside of the UK who  cannot access the BBC iPlayer feature, and its is hoped that this is planned for the not too distant future.

Researchers have found that approximately 4.7 percent of the nation’s population suffers from persistent depression or anxiety disorders, with a minority of those afflicted receiving adequate medication or counseling.

Though effective treatments are available for individuals suffering from chronic depression and anxiety, very little is known about how often these treatments are used or how prevalent these conditions are among the nation’s general population. [continue reading…]
